5 Aspects why pigeons suffer in cities

brooding

Humans have been breeding pigeons for thousands of years, and they have often been exploited for their meat and eggs. And because of their loyalty to the mate and to the home loft, they have been preferred to breed carrier pigeons. In addition, a permanent breeding compulsion was bred - so the city pigeons breed 4 to 8 times a year, regardless of whether there is enough food and places or not. Thus, the misery of the pigeons increases.

hunger

In the cities, it is difficult for the pigeon to get grains and seeds to feed itself in a species-appropriate way. Instead, they find breadcrumbs, moldy leftover cakes and other human waste. This extremely weakens their immune system, resulting in what is known as "starvation". And since the pigeons have to take care of their little chicks, they beg for every little edible crumb.

Place

Unlike the native wood pigeon or turtle dove, which nest in trees, the city pigeon needs small, flat areas because it is descended from the rock pigeon. They find these places, but more and more these places are scared away with nets or spikes (on the left in the picture). Thus, the city pigeons crouch closer and closer together. This is uncomfortable for the pigeon and gives the impression that there are too many pigeons.

risk of injury

The spikes, which are popular on train stations and buildings, pose a terrible risk of injury. Pigeons have an instinct to only nest and breed in certain places. Pigeons eat by running around a lot. Rubber bands, threads, cords and even hair can become tangled around the feet. Double lacing leads to the inability of the animals to walk - but since they need to walk to find food, the pigeons suffer an agonizing starvation!

pigeon fancier

The "Peace Dove", which, for example, likes to be "released" at weddings, or disoriented pigeons, which are sent off to races, join the city pigeons when they can't find their way home. This increases the suffering.

Since it's a man-made problem, WE have the responsibility to ban such races and pigeon indulgences.

We want and have to give the pigeons a good life!!!

Conclusion

Help the pigeons and other wild animals. We take far too much away from nature. It is all the more important to create an adequate habitat for animals.
